The period between Saint Anthony's Day and Ash Wednesday is carnival time. The town of Kastav has a Carnival Statute which orders that on the first day of carnival time the Zlatna broskva (golden kale) award is presented to the best masked person of the past year. During the carnival, maškarani tanci, masked dances are held; balinjerada, a competition to create the most original means of transport is run and the zvončari (the bellmen) are welcomed. On Ash Wednesday, the last day of carnival, the Pust, as a traditional culprit for all the last year’s troubles is burnt. The explanation of the verdict is called pusna napoved (the carnival chronicle).

The exhibition by Kresimir Zimonić "Comics and Illustrations", organized by the Croatian Museum of Tourism opens on Friday, 14th January in Art pavilion "Juraj Sporer" Opatija, at 19.30.
Krešimir Zimonić was born in 1956. He started making animated films professionally in 1979. and from 1981 has a free lance artist status. In 2002 he started teaching at the Academy of fine arts in Zagreb, section for animation and multimedia. Four of his comic book collections have been published, he illustrated cca. twenty book covers, he is an author of numerous posters, catalogues, articles about comic books and animation. He is one of the founders and a president of the Croatian Comic Book Society. He is a board member of ANIMAFEST – World festival of animated films, held in Zagreb every two years.
