MIK e' l' abbreviazione di Melodie dell' Istria e del Kvarner (Quarnero). Il festival e' ogni anno ospite delle citta' dell' Istria e del Quarnero, area ricoperta da tre Contee della parte occidentale della Croazia, lungo il litorale settentrionale dell' azzuro mare Adriatico. Questo e' un festival basato sull` etno musica della regione nella quale ha luogo, ed a cui musica e' fondamento la cosidetta "scala istriana", uno dei fenomeni forse piu' interessanti al mondo. Le canzoni sfiorano appena gli elementi del tanto caratteristico melos, in un modo accettabile e gradevole.
