6th Kastav Film Festival
Kastav
v Film Festival is an international film festival that encourages the opening of public spaces and freedom of expression by providing projections of all submitted films, without selection. In 2008, a group of male and female students from the Cultural Studies in Rijeka explored the possibility of creating experimental cultural projects based on freedom of expression, collaboration and non-hierarchical structure. A year later, it was decided that it would be the project of a film festival. After the funds were secured, it was chosen that the place of the whole happening would be Kastav. The organization of the festival was difficult because of the large student protests in which almost the whole organizational team was involved. However, the first edition of Kastav Film Festival was declared a success, after which the talks on the possibility of holding a regular festival begun.
In 2010 the second edition of the festival was held and some technical improvements were brought. The number of submissions, compared to the first edition, were significantly increased as well. The third edition of the festival was marked by the launch of the Manifesto, which finally determined the concept of the whole project. The Manifesto attracted an outstanding interest on the independent international scene, which led to many submissions from the whole world. In 2012 concerts were introduced as part of the festival programme and cooperation with the local community was enhanced as well. Last year, the festival hosted more than 150 films.
