PUCCINI – CHE PASSIONE!

Soloist: Vedrana Šimić, soprano
Piano: Filip Fak

After Verdi, Puccini is probably the most famous representative of Italian opera whose works are still among the most performed in stages worldwide, and who has described his owns style as: "My style is poetry and again poetry – the tenderness of words mixed with pain; sensuality; drama of surprise and yearning..." Along with operas he wrote other genres: orchestra pieces, sacral music... and solo pieces for voice and piano. He wrote songs occasionally and mostly for a special purpose, for instance salon performances with his friends. He borrowed some parts of those songs for his operas, so in a way these works fascinatingly enlighten Puccini's development as a composer. Puccini's songs will be performed by an exquisite singer, soprano Vedrana Šimić, a favourite among Rijeka's audiences and critics who have appraised her as a "singer of opulent and beautiful voice with a large and dynamic range, as well as agility, expressiveness and inner interpretational strength." Vedrana Šimić will be accompanied by a renowned Rijeka's pianist Filip Fak who has performed as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician in almost all major Croatian cultural centres and in several European countries, United States and China.
