Carnival 2008.

Long tradition of carnival on beautiful Opatijska Rivijera goes from long 1511.year when the part of it, were so called “zvoncari” ,(one of the specificity of this carnival),dressed with sheep leather and the bell over their waists. With their ringing they were treadle all the bad things from the last year and invoke for a spring. From year to a year Opatija is in this period colourful and dancing stage, on which everybody is invited who is ready for a moment be someone else. All the places are hosting; hotels, terraces, tents, and city streets, and leaving their space for the masquerade troupes, concerts and dances under disguise. It’s important to say that city of carnival is neighboured city- Rijeka also, and it become part of European society of carnival cities.
In history, guests of Rijeka and Opatija Carnival were Austrian and Hungarian nobility, Russian princess, Germans barons, count and countess from whole Europe.
Final international procession in Rijeka’s Korzo, in last carnival Sunday, every year is hosting more and more groups from the whole world. So, don’t miss, everybody want’s at least sometimes put a mask and be someone else, put it one and join us and this year also in Opatija or in Rijeka!
