In 1948, the World Health Organization held the First World Health Assembly. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7th April of each year, with effect from 1950, as the World Health Day. The World Health Day is celebrated to create “awareness of a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health Organization (WHO)”. Opatija is declared "Healthy City"

Holy Mass in the Old Slavic will be held in the Church of St. Sebastian in Rijeka, starting at 17:00.
Although being a small building, the Church of St. Sebastian has a long history. As it was dedicated to St. Sebastian, the protector from the plague, it has a special place in annals of public health. Historians agree that the church was built as an oath following the plague at the end of the 13th century.
