Matija Dedić is a Croatian jazz pianist and composer. He is a son of prominent Croatian musicians, singer Gabi Novak and songwriter Arsen Dedić. Matija Dedić was born in Zagreb, where he attended the School of Music Vatroslav Lisinski. He started playing music very early, and already at the age of five he began to play classical music on the piano. After graduating from high school, he continued his education in Graz, where he was attending a jazz academy. Soon after returning to Zagreb in 1997 Matija Dedić managed to gain a very good reputation on the Croatian music scene. He founded the Matija Dedić Trio, with whom he performed his own compositions. Over the years he played in most European countries and in the United States, collaborating with great musicians such as Alvin Queen, Martin Drew, Ron Ringwood, Boško Petrović, Marc Murphy Band, Patrizia Conte, Tommy Emmanuel, Buster Williams, Tamara Obrovac, Salvatore Maiore and many others. He writes music for television and theatre, and also performs with some popular musicians from Croatia. He won 10 Porin awards for best individual jazz compositions and jazz albums.

Composer, singer and flutist Tamara Obrovac is one of the most impressive artists on the Croatian music scene, and in the past few years she has become very popular due to the influence of the Istrian folk music that has been the creative force of her works. In addition to her international concert activities, she composes music for theatre and film, and has received many awards for her work. Her international Transhistria ensemble incorporates elements of jazz, Istrian and Mediterranean national music, and many elements of modern music skilfully and naturally, and her utterly original and autochthonous music goes beyond time and geographical boundaries, thus becoming a universal artistic message which establishes Tamara Obrovac as an exceptional artist who has created her own unique musical expression. International recognition came also through the nomination for the BBC Radio 3 World music Awards 2004 (European Music and Audience Award). So far she has released 7 studio albums. In Kastav she will once again join forces with her longtime collaborator Matija Dedić and his quartet.

With their quality performances Matija Dedić and Tamara Obrovac have been amusing audiences throughout Europe for a long time and now they are coming together to the Katav Cultural Summer to evoke the atmosphere of some high-quality jazz!
