Wien und Opatija, zwei angesehene europäische Kultur- und Tourismusstädte, pflegen auch heute noch ihre viele Jahrzehnte andauernde Verbundenheit, die auf einem gemeinsamen historischen, gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Erbe basiert. Diese Verbundenheit war die Grundlage für die Wiener Woche in Opatija, bei der die Cafés von Opatija typische Wiener Desserts und die berühmte Sachertorte und die örtlichen Restaurants die nach traditioneller Rezeptur zubereiteten kulinarischen Spezialitäten anbieten. Zum Veranstaltungsrahmen gehören außerdem diverse Musik- und Tanzabende, Kunstausstellungen, Workshops für Kinder sowie Rundtischdiskussionen mit namhaften Gästen. Der Höhepunkt der Wiener Woche ist der Gala-Wienerball, auf dem im Kristallsaal des Hotels Kvarner zahlreiche angesehene Gäste, Botschafter, Bürgermeister der Partnerstädte und Mitglieder der politischen und wirtschaftlichen Elite der Stadt Wien sowie zahlreiche Unternehmer und Personen des öffentlichen Lebens aus Opatija zum Walzerrhythmus tanzen.

Congratulations to the city of Opatija !
This year's celebration marks the 170 anniversary of tourism, which is always attractive lady with charm and beauty which attracts visitors since 1844.
Story of Opatija is related to the church of St. Jacob, and the church which will later become - Opatija. Sv. Jacob is the patron saint of pilgrims and travelers, druggists, tanners, farmers, fruit growers and ... Opatija. St. Jacob - July 25 is celebrated as the Day of the City of Opatija (according to the decision of Opatija on 27 March 2008).

The Lumiere brothers, who used to film in Opatija; Isadora Duncan, who danced inspired by the fluttering of palm leaves in the breeze; the Empress Sissi, who officially never visited Opatija, but used to hide here in a villa in the company of a lover – all of them, and many other famous people from the history of this town, come back to life in mid-July during the Imperial Town festival, which combines music and theatre at various locations, transforming Opatija into one big stage for a fantastic spectacle with thousands of visitors.

During the two days of the event, visitors will have the chance to learn more about Opatija's history and some of its secrets, and to see for themselves why this town has become and has remained a favourite destination for many celebrities, as well as to feel the spirit of the time when Opatija began its rise to the throne of European tourism. The event "Opatija – the Imperial town" takes place all over the town centre and along the main street, and also on the seafront promenade and in the magnificent parks and impressive villas, and it ends with a spectacular concert on Slatina Beach.
